As I reflect on my first year with the GSDC as CEO & President, I have immense gratitude for the progress our team has made. It has been a year of transition, growth, and numerous small wins that collectively position the GSDC for greater success! As we continue to navigate changing economic landscapes, we are actively setting the stage for sustained growth and impactful regional economic development.

Some of the most notable achievements over the last 12 months are noted below:

  • Successful transition with leadership and team development: The Board of Directors, Gail, Leslie, and Tammy have been instrumental throughout the process and have helped make this transition such a success. Since my arrival, we've onboarded Emily (EPIC) and Jennie, our new Administrative and Program Specialist, and they have been invaluable from the outset. We're learning and growing together!
  • Internal Optimization: Albeit challenging, we feel confident about the technology and infrastructure changes we've made to improve efficiencies so that each staff can better serve our region. This team is agile and willing to learn!
  • Community Engagement + Support: We've worked diligently to establish credibility and build rapport with supporters, opponents, and convinceables. We firmly believe that collaborative partnerships are critical to our collective success.
  • Investor Stewardship: We've increased touchpoints with 1:1 engagement, BRE Champion programming, and routine publications to promote our value proposition and effectively make investment dollars work for the entire region.
  • New Funding Streams: Since my arrival, we've applied for and received a total of $475,000 in programmatic grant funding ( 2 of the 3 grants were first-time applications). This allowed us to create and expand small business ecosystem initiatives that pilot and integrate Entrepreneurship-Led Economic Development or ELED into our strategy.
  • Thrive MN: The newest grant-funded initiative that enhances startup and expansion support to our regional small business community. Among the programmatic elements, includes 1:1 growth strategy coaching, launched on April 1. After the first quarter, we have experienced immense success and positive feedback. Over 30 inquiries and 20 active participants with early wins already in progress!

As I reflect on these small but impactful wins, I am filled with optimism for the future of the GSDC and the Greater St. Cloud region. Thank you for your continued support and belief in our mission. Together, we are making a tangible difference in the economic landscape of our region!

With gratitude,

Yesterday, the GSDC hosted a presentation for the Downtown St. Cloud Business Improvement District (BID) with over 55 attendees. BIDs revitalize commercial areas, boost property values, and foster vibrant business environments through collaborative efforts between property owners and businesses. Thank you to Mayor Dave Kleis, Matt Glaesman, Greg Windfeldt, NeTia Bauman, and Anna Schmoll for sharing expertise on how the BID will improve cleanliness and safety in downtown.
